Cutting felt glides yourself (Sheets & Rolls)
Special dimensions, unusual shapes, very large contact surfaces: Self-adhesive felt sheets and rolls can be cut to any size with scissors or a cutter – here's how to achieve a clean cut.
Tools and Preparation
More than a sharp pair of scissors or a cutter with a fresh blade, a ruler and a pen is not necessary. Markings are made on the back (protective film) – this is where the line is most visible, and the felt side remains clean.
How to achieve a clean cut
- Square shapes: cut along the ruler's edge – long, steady cuts instead of many small ones.
- Round shapes: place the furniture leg or a coin as a template on the film side, trace around it, cut out.
- Cutter: cut through on a firm surface in two or three passes instead of one forceful cut.
Attach as usual
The same rule applies to cutting as to ready-made glides: clean and degrease the surface, peel off the film, press firmly. For very large areas, peel off the film gradually and stick the felt from one side without bubbles.
It's better to cut it slightly smaller than the leg – an overhanging edge will fold up when pushed.
