Protect parquet from scratches – the best glides
A scratch in parquet flooring happens quickly and is costly to repair. With the right felt glides, it won't even come to that – what really matters for real wood.
Why parquet needs special glides
Wood is softer than almost anything pushed over it. Even a grain of sand under a hard chair leg leaves a visible mark. Felt works doubly here: it cushions the load and absorbs fine particles into its fibre structure, instead of rubbing them across the surface.
The right choice for real wood
- Chairs: Felt glides with nail or screw – daily sliding movement requires mechanical fastening.
- Tables and sideboards: self-adhesive felt glides in leg size, clean and invisible.
- Very heavy furniture: choose large-surface glides to distribute the load and prevent pressure marks.
Sealed or oiled?
Sealed parquet is less sensitive to moisture, while oiled parquet is easier to repair – this makes little difference for the choice of glides. More important is maintenance: regularly check glides for embedded particles and replace worn-out ones before the base wears through.
Use the measuring guide below: a glide that is exactly the leg size or slightly smaller remains invisible and never protrudes.
How to measure the right size
Measure the cross-section of the furniture leg. Rule of thumb: choose glides that are the same size or minimally smaller than the contact surface – this ensures the furniture is stable and the floor remains protected. No diameter measurable? Measure the circumference – we will convert it (Ø = circumference ÷ 3.14).
